Summary

A yacht adventure is the ideal way to experience what many consider the world's most beautiful islands: the Canary Islands. Sail for seven days aboard our 17m (57 ft) yacht, with time for hiking, snorkeling and relaxing. Explore historical sites and cafe-lined harbours, and dine on fresh seafood.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Isla de Tenerife

Arrive to the boat at 4pm for a welcome meeting and safety briefing. Settle into your cabins before heading ashore to pick up supplies for your upcoming adventure.

  • Day 2

Isla de Tenerife to San Sebastián de la Gomera

Set off on your first day of sailing from the island of Tenerife to La Gomera Island. Arrive to San Sebastian La Gomera in the afternoon and explore inland on the island and the national park. Opt to go for a gentle hike, enjoy the scenery at a local alfresco café, or explore the historical town of San Sebastian on your own. Meet up with your Skipper and group for dinner in the evening, and if you're feeling like some local nightlife you can stay out on the town after or head back to the yacht for an early night.

  • Day 3

San Sebastián de la Gomera/Santa Cruz de la Palma

With a long day at sea, try your hand at sailing or relax on deck. Arrive in Santa Cruz de la Palma in the early evening where you can begin to explore its variety of bars and cafés. With a long day at sea today you will have time to practice your skills at sailing the boat, cooking lunch on the hoof (eating while on the move), or simply rest up below deck. Relax for the evening on deck or explore the wonderful town on foot.

  • Day 4

    Santa Cruz de la Palma

Spend the day ashore to discover and explore the lively city of Santa Cruz de la Palma. Visit the colourful Avenida Maritima, the impressive Iglesia del Salvador or wander the cobblestone streets surrounded by 15th century architecture. Finish the day at one of the many quaint bars and restaurants. Full of museums, architecture, and centuries-old historical sites, the cobblestone streets of Santa Cruz are full of activity. A local guide can be arranged, or your Skipper can give you tips on the best things to see and do.

  • Day 5

Santa Cruz de la Palma to La Gomera

Set off early back to the island of La Gomera, this time exploring the island from the comfort of the yacht. Find several isolated anchorages, enjoy walks on the beach, and swim/snorkel right off the boat. Join your fellow travellers and enjoy the team effort of cooking a meal onboard, and eat alfresco under the stars miles from anywhere. If weather permitting, tonight will will be spent on anchor, so sit in the cockpit and gaze at the stars, or play some fun games with your fellow travellers while enjoying the wilderness.

  • Day 6

    La Gomera to Los Cristianos

Arrive in Los Cristianos in time for lunch. In the afternoon enjoy swimming in the famous bay, or go ashore to wander the waterfront. There are all sort of activities to immerse yourself into here, which include lots of water activities which can be arranged for you by your Skipper, or simply relax for the day on the beach.

  • Day 7

    Los Cristianos/San Miguel Marina

Arrive back to San Miguel Marina in the late morning and disembark the yacht by noon.

  • A great place to get away from the rat race, spent with good people in sunshine. Would recommend! I would certainly recommend. Fun trip and great people.

  • The Canaries are a beautiful place to see and adventure in, but sailing might not be the best way see the islands. Might have been different with the correct boat listed for the sail. G is a great place to locate wonderful small group trips and even if you are traveling alone it is perfect for anyone wanting new adventures.

Frequently asked questions

  • What type of accommodation is provided on the yacht?

You'll be staying in one of five twin/double bed cabins, which may have en suite or shared facilities. Twin cabins typically feature a double bed on the bottom bunk and a single bed on the top bunk, with shared bathrooms often used by the Skipper/CEO.
  • What is the sleeping arrangement for solo travelers?

Solo travelers will be paired in shared accommodation with someone of the same sex, as there is no single supplement for this group trip.
  • Are suitcases allowed on board?

Due to limited space on the yacht, only soft-sided luggage like a mid-sized backpack or soft duffel bag (under 15kg) is permitted. Hard suitcases are not suitable.
  • Are meals included in the tour price?

Generally, meals are not included to provide flexibility. However, a food kitty of approximately EUR 60 per person, per week will be collected for onboard breakfasts, lunches, and occasional dinners, which you will prepare yourself. Most dinners are taken ashore at local restaurants.
  • Is this a self-catering trip?

Yes, this is a self-catering trip. All participants are expected to help with meal preparation, cleaning up after themselves, and keeping the boat tidy (including washing dishes and emptying bins).
  • How much fresh water is available for showers?

Fresh water is very limited on board, so showers are restricted to one quick shower per person per day.
  • What kind of electrical outlets are available on the yacht?

Electrical outlets on board are European style with 2 pins (240V) and are only operational when the yacht is in port. It's highly recommended to bring an external battery pack for charging personal electronics.
  • What is the physical rating of this tour?

This tour has a physical rating of 3. You should be able to climb small steep ladders, walk over a wooden plank when boarding/disembarking, carry your luggage, and move comfortably on a yacht under sail in wavy conditions. You will also frequently be climbing in and out of inflatable tenders.
  • Do I need prior sailing experience?

No prior sailing experience is required. A fully licensed Skipper/CEO is onboard to manage the sailing, your safety, and the vessel. They are happy to impart some of their sailing knowledge if you wish to participate.
  • Who will be leading the tour?

A G Adventures Skipper/CEO (Chief Experience Officer) will be with the group throughout your journey. They handle sailing, safety, and offer suggestions for activities, sights, and local eating venues.
  • How much spending money should I budget?

It is recommended to allow approximately $150-170 USD (or equivalent in Euros) per person for local taxi/bus/tour vehicle around the islands while exploring, and for optional activities.
  • What are the tipping customs?

Tipping is customary in Europe. A standard rule is 10% of the bill for wait/hospitality staff and €1 or €2 for other service providers. For your Skipper CEO, a minimum guideline of 10 EUR per person, per day is suggested. Local guides may receive 10-20% depending on service quality and length.
  • What currency should I bring and how should I handle money?

A combination of Euros, traveler's cheques, and credit/debit cards (Visa is most widely accepted) is best. While ATMs are available, there's no guarantee cards will always work, and credit card purchases may incur a 5-10% fee. Do not rely on cards as your only source of money.
  • Is an emergency fund necessary?

Yes, it is recommended to have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an 'emergency' fund for unforeseen circumstances.
  • What should I know about health precautions?

There are no particular health issues, but bottled water is recommended in some remote islands. Heat waves are possible from June to October. People sensitive to seasickness should come prepared. Consult your travel doctor for up-to-date medical travel information and consider carrying a First Aid kit.
  • Can I use a Sleep Apnea/CPAP machine on board?

There is no constant power source onboard for Sleep Apnea/CPAP machines, so you will need to bring a suitable battery pack if you require one.
  • Is the itinerary flexible and subject to change?

Yes, there is flexibility built into the itinerary. On occasion, it may be necessary or desirable to make alterations due to weather conditions or other factors. Your Skipper will advise you of any amendments.
  • What if the sailboat cannot dock in Tenerife?

Due to weather conditions, it is possible that the sailboat won't be able to dock in Tenerife, meaning a short ferry ride to or from the boat may be required at the start or end of the trip.
  • What are the bed dimensions in the cabins?

The beds in the cabins are approximately 1.8 meters (6 feet) in length.
  • What are the requirements for renting a vehicle on the islands?

If you do not have an EU Driver's Licence, you should obtain an International Licence to be able to rent a vehicle on the islands.
